Our new crane PK 481 - Xiao Ping

The crane arrived in Port of Oxelösund on Saturday April 18 at 6.00 am after 83 days at sea on her journey from the world’s largest crane manufacturer, ZPMC in Shanghai. She rolled ashore on the morning of Monday April 20.

The crane is 63 metres hight, weighs 1500 tons and has a lifting capacity of 48 tons. It replaces two old cranes. Speed for unloading will be doubled and water spraying will reduce dust levels.

We have had a tradition since 1998 of giving our new cranes female names. This time it is the head constructor’s wife who will give her name to the new crane. Her name is Xiao Ping which means “Smooth and Peaceful” which we hope will be a good sign of a long life for the crane.

The official inauguration was held on Wednesday June 3. The sun looked up in time for the introduction and it was a memorable ceremony with Chinese characteristics.
