Quality and environmental work in the Port of Oxelösund
The Port of Oxelösund received its certificate for quality in
1999. In 2002 the organisation was certified according to ISO 9001. This supports our work internally to ensure the quality of our products and work and areas of responsibility in a certified management system.
Consent for the activities of The Port of Oxelösund is given by Södermanlands County Council which is the authorising body. This consent
also states the level of responsibility we have to the environment in carrying out our activities.
The port activities create a concentrated burden on the environment, as it has become a central point for the reloading of cargo. Of course the port creates noise and dust which effects the surrounding area therefore the port’s environmental situation is a balance between national interest and local inconvenience.
Co-ordinating of Transport
In our work we seek to co-ordinate the flow of goods to and from the port for better transport efficiency as well as minimising the quantity of transport movements, all of which is good for the environment.
Careful handling and cleaning
It is important to spray water over the storage areas and roads, to keep surfaces and conveyor belts clean and keep all the dust on the ground. It is also important we handle all cargoes with care to reduce noise and the spreading of dust. We therefore measure, analyse and take issue with the dust, noise and water pollution in a continuous dialogue with the County Council, who give us their consent to carry out all our activities.
To minimise a vessels effect on the environment we accept a vessels liquid waste and other rubbish. Vessels which can show low emissions of NOx and SOx can have a reduction in their port tariffs. All our waste is, of course, sorted for re-cycling.
