Waste management  

The Port of Oxelösund accepts sorted waste products from vessels as far as the regional waste disposal centre allows. This entails re-using, recycling and energy extraction of waste wherever possible. Waste contaminated by oil and other harmful products are disposed of in a way regulated by the authorities. The fee for this service is included in the port tariffs and is charged to all vessels.

 

A report shall be made at least 24 hours before collection and should among other things include information on the quantity, product and the dimension and type of connection. Contaminated water (sludge and sewage) is removed by a sewage vehicle.

 

Oil contaminated rags etc and other harmful waste must be pre-packed and marked in accordance with instructions in “MARPOL 73/78 Annex III”.

 

Within the Port of Oxelösund there are even containers for re-cycling and waste can be sorted into the following categories: wood, paper/corrugated card, kitchen waste, fluorescent light tubes, light bulbs and batteries.
