Depositing of waste oil and
engine room waste
Waste oil and other products which are normally found in a vessels engine room can be handed over without charge to the Port of Oxelösund under the following conditions: (normal means what can be found in the keel under the
engine room, sludge and sewage.
1. The waste shall come from vessels in the Port of Oxelösund and not have a combustion point of less than 60º or other components which are classed as “dan
2. At least 24 hours notice must be given for the ordering of this service. Ordering can be arranged through the port’s traffic office by telephoning 0155 258150 daily between 08.00-12.00 and 13.00-16.00 (except Bank holidays)
When ordering information is required on the quantity, type of waste, components of the waste, in what way the waste is to be handed over, if the waste can be pumped and the type of connections required. It is preferable if an international connection can be found on deck.
The traffic office will inform the vessel from which quay and by what means the handing over of waste will be carried out.
3. If the handing over of waste does not occur at the agreed time the incurred costs will be charged to the vessel.
4. If a sludge pumping tanker is used the time for handing over the waste must be agreed. The tanker has a maximum waiting time of 15 minutes including connection time. If waiting time is more than 15 minutes
the costs will be charged to the vessel but not costs due to the late arrival of the tanker.
5. In cases where the
vessel uses it’s own pumps to offload waste oil this must be carried out at a rate of not less than 5m³ per hour. If this can not be done an extra cost shall be charged.
6. Aboard the vessel there must a responsible person who can accept and connect the hose, attend to the pumping onboard and be available to assist when required.
In cases where a sludge suction tanker is used the driver must constantly observe the tanker and the hose during the work being done to avoid the risk of oil spillage. The tanker driver is responsible for any oil spillage from the tanker.
7. When waste is handed over in metal drums these shall be placed in an area designated by the port through the vessels agency. The drums must be undamaged and tightly sealed when handed over. Costs for cleaning and removing any spills caused by leaking drums, as well as costs for special handling because of the risk of leakage will be charged to the vessel.
8. A written declaration of the waste’s contents shall be given to the receiver. On collection the above information should be given to the tanker driver.
When placed on the quayside drums shall be durable and clearly marked (not with water based paint) with the contents and the name of the vessel.
9. All the above regarding transportation by tanker applies to all other forms of transport.
