Klimatsteget describes the great steps towards a more environmentally friendly industry that Oxelösund will be taking in the coming years. SSAB will convert its steel production to base it on scrap metal instead of coal and ore. This means that the blast furnace process will be replaced. To serve SSAB’s fuel needs in all its processes, a liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal will be built. In the future, maritime transport will increasingly use the same type of fuel, which will lead to more environmentally friendly cargo at sea. The planned LNG terminal at the Port of Oxelösund will provide natural gas to both SSAB and vessels.
