Why is Port of Oxelösund expanding now?
We’re expanding to meet the logistics needs of the future — for ourselves, our customers, and the region. A key driver is SSAB’s transition to fossil-free steel production, which means the port will handle new types of cargo in the coming years, primarily scrap metal and iron raw material. This requires new capacity, infrastructure, and logistics solutions.
What does the investment include?
The investment includes:
- Construction of a completely new quay
- Dredging of the harbor basin to accommodate larger vessels
- New cranes and a modernized machine fleet
- Upgraded rail infrastructure
- Expanded storage areas
- A new mooring dolphin (anchoring point in the water)
How much is being invested?
We’re investing approximately SEK 700 million through 2027.
How will this affect those living near the port?
We’re actively implementing noise-reduction measures, effective dust control, and clear guidelines for transport and workplace safety. All work is carried out within the limits set by the County Administrative Board. Our ambition is to minimize the impact on the surrounding area throughout the entire construction period.
Will the port change visually?
Yes. The expansion of quays, logistics areas, and new equipment will change the port’s silhouette. We’re building for the future — with great respect for the surrounding environment.
