Rules for port area safety
ISPS stands for the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code. Developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the code aims to enhance security on ships and in port facilities. Here you can find more information on the rules that apply within the Port of Oxelösund.
Advance notice
Ships must submit written advance notice of arrival at least 24 hours before calling at the port. They must also state the security level of the vessel and the security level at the last port of call. In most cases, the ship’s agent handles this information and forwards it to the Port of Oxelösund.
ISPS Area Signage
ISPS areas are clearly marked with signs. Anyone present in these areas may be subject to identification checks.
Entry to ISPS areas
Visitors to the Port of Oxelösund must use the company’s main entrance at Skeppargatan 25 when entering the port area. Visits must be notified in advance, and after an ID check, security personnel will provide guidance on the appropriate route within the ISPS area. Other entrances to the port may only be used by authorised personnel with an access card.
Crew identification
Crew members that stay within the ISPS area may be asked to present a valid shipping log or a so-called IMO-ID. Failure to present a valid ID will result in expulsion and the police will be alerted.
Maritime Security Declaration
If a vessel’s security level is higher than the level prevailing in the port, or if it otherwise considers that it needs enhanced security, a request for a shipping security declaration must be submitted directly to the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) via the transport office (+46-155-258150, [email protected]). Any additional costs that may be incurred in connection with such a request will be charged to the vessel.
Non-ISPS-compliant vessels
Vessels that have not received approval in accordance with the ISPS Code or come from a port that does not satisfy the requirements will be charged all additional costs associated with arrival in port, such as extra security staffing.
