Waste management at Port of Oxelösund

All waste management at the port is regulated by law, covering both waste we generate ourselves and waste from vessels visiting the port. We have waste stations for solid waste, both general and hazardous, and we receive all sludge and bilge water that vessels wish to dispose of. At the port, we follow the “No Special Fee” principle, meaning no additional charge is applied for waste. It is included in the port fee regardless of quantity or type.

We handle approximately 1,100 cubic meters of sludge annually. Our total waste management amounts to around 500 cubic meters of general waste and 25 cubic meters of hazardous waste, including batteries, fluorescent tubes, and paint.

In our operations, we follow a sustainability cycle in which we recycle what we can and send what cannot be recycled to landfill. Today, we recycle approximately 225 tons of scrap annually. For example, we continuously take samples of surplus materials, which we analyze and handle according to the results. Some materials are reused as fill, while the remainder is sent to landfill.
