Why is Port of Oxelösund being rebuilt right now?


We are rebuilding to meet the logistics needs of the future – our own, our customers’ and the region’s. An important reason is SSAB’s transition to fossil-free steel production, which means that the port will in the future handle other types of cargo, mainly scrap and iron ore. This places new demands on our capacity, infrastructure and logistics solutions.

What does the investment include?

The investment includes, among other things:

• Construction of a completely new quay
• Dredging of the harbor basin to receive larger vessels
• New cranes and modern equipment fleet
• Upgrade of railway infrastructure
• Expanded storage areas
• A new mooring dolphin (anchoring point in the water)

How much is being invested?


We are investing around SEK 700 million up until 2027.

How does this affect me as someone living close to the port?


We work actively with noise-reducing measures, efficient dust control and clear guidelines for transport and work environment. All work is carried out within the limit values set by the County Administrative Board. Our ambition is that the impact on the surroundings will be as small as possible during the entire construction period.

Will the port change visually?


Yes, the physical expansion of quays, logistics areas and new equipment will change the silhouette of the port. We are building for the future, but with great consideration for the surroundings.

You will get access to a more flexible, modern and sustainable port. The increased capacity means faster handling, larger storage possibilities and better connections to railway and sea transport.
